Books I read this summer

18 Aug

Even Now / Ever After Compilation Limited Edition

“Even Now and Ever After” by Karen Kingsbury.  This is actually the first book and its sequal.  A christian novel.  Pretty good.  Entertaining but I could definately put it down.

I started it months ago and finished it at the beginning of the summer.

Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God [Book]“Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.  I know I blogged about this one before.  So convicting and yet so simple.  This is what Jesus said…. so “do it!”

The kite runner [Book]

“The Kite Runner.”  Oh my goodness.  I am a slow reader so reading a book in 3 weeks is really good for me.  If you have not read this yet (the movie gets the basic gist but is not nearly as great), this should be your next read.  Set in Afghanastan, it gave me something I love in a novel:  I get a glimpse into a different culture and time period.

Pick this one up!

Unveiled [Book]

In “Unveiled” by Francine Rivers (my favorite Christian novelist), the story of Tamar, son of Judah, the brother who suggested that Joseph be sold to slavery, is brought to life.

She stays true to the scriptural account of Tamar while bringing in some fictional characters to help make connections to the story.  So interesting to get a greater understanding of the ‘woman’s place’ during biblical times.  Her job: marry, have sons.  Without that, a woman was worthless.  Gives me even more respect for the God-fearing women of the bible, knowing a little more of what they endured everyday.

There are 4 more books in this series that I will definately be ordering soon.

 A Thousand Splendid Suns [Book]

And started “A Thousand Splendid Suns” on my vacation as recomended by my friend, Gina.  Written by the same author as “The Kite Runner,” this one shares the story of 2 women living in Afghanastan.

So far, so good.

I am pretty proud of myself.  At the beginning of the summer I secretly made a goal that I wanted to complete 1 book this summer.  Look at me!

What have you read lately that you just have to share?

I read kite runner too this summer. My mom was in Afghanistan for awhile so it made all the stories she told more real. It was a hard book to get through.
