Help me

21 Oct

This is for all you bloggers.  I need computer help.  As you have probably noticed from my very boring blog that I am not the most computer savy.  I need some help with my pictures.  I know they are too big.  I usually just upload them and then shrink them down.  But they still take awhile to load even though they don’t look that big after I shrink them.

I also want to put a picture on for my banner.

And yes, I have a PC.  Any help out there?

I love making banners and would love to make you one but my computer is broken so I don’t have access to my photoshop. 😦

I haven’t figured out a perfect method for my pictures, but what i do is find my max pixel size for my blog and resize them to that width. Then i use html to link it to the original picture so it can be viewed at higher pixels. Unfortunately its a lot of work lol. For the banner are you wanting to make a picture for it or find out how to change it?

    whoa voges, slow down…
    what he said:
ignore the first part-i’m not really sure about it!

do you have a picture you already have that you would like to use as a banner? that’s the first step. If you know what image you want then we can go from there =)

I think I want to start with the basics. Jumped the gun with the whole banner thing. What about just making my pictures small enough so that they don’t take so lon to load?

If you have Photoshop (any version can do this)

    1. open the picture in photoshop
    2. open the tab on top that says image
    3. click on image size
    4. in the pop up menu click the box marked constrain proportions
    5. then in the same pop up menu, where it gives the pixels dimensions, change the width to 300 pixels
    6. click okay in the pop up menu
    7. open the tab on top that says file
    8. click on save, or save as
    9. you have your new image that will work on any blog

If you don’t have Photoshop or other photo program, you surely have MicroSoft Paint. Here’s what you do.
    1. open up the folder your pic is in with Windows Explorer. View in thumbnail view
    2. float cursor over your pic until the little popup gives you pixel and byte size info. write it down.
    3. right click on your thumbnail, highlight “open with”, choose “Paint.”
    4. click on “image”, “stretch/skew”
    5. in Stretch – horizontal and vertical, input percentages you want to change the pic to. cliick ok.
6.Now do one of three things: A. click on file and click save. B. click on file and click save as- give it a new name which saves your original as is. or C. Exit and save changes.
    7. voila – you’re done.

    Have fun

If you want a banner you probably want a picture that is major horizontally formatted. In that case you probably need to do some significant cropping. E mail me your choice. Describe best you can what part of the pic you want cropped for the banner and I’ll shoot it back to you for approval.

I’m a dummy. I just open the image in Microsoft Picture Manager then:
    1. click Edit picture
    2. click resize
    3. put in 50% and click ok
    4. go back to Edit picture
    5. click Compress
    6. select for Web display (this squeezes them smaller so they don’t take up so much room)
    7. save them under a new name

Hope this helps. I liked this method because it protected me from knowing pixel sizes & stuff.
