So I got this email a few weeks back letting me know about this singing competition the city of Riverside is putting on. There is money involved so I figured, what the heck? I signed up today. I get nervous for performance things (some people think that’s wierd ’cause I sing in front of a couple thousand every Sunday, but thats worship. Its different) so I am hoping that the more audition stuff I do, the less nervous I will get. The audition is Friday night and the finalists will sing at a Concert in the Park thing in August.
But I need some help. What song to sing? I have it narrowed down to a few:
1. Black Velvet (Alannah Myles) - good for my voice. Maybe a little too karaoke?
2. I Love Rock and Roll (Joan Jett) - very simple, but everyone knows it and easy to get crowd participation
3. Before He Cheats (Carrie Underwood) - great song, but maybe too recent. When you sing a song that is popular, people always compare you to the original.
Help me out. What do you think I should sing? Any other ideas?

My vote is for black velvet. You can throw down a nice bit of attitude and vocal face kicking with that baby. Maybe even wear some while you sing it.
